Top Android apps - Google Maps for Android

Google Maps is an indispensable app for those directionally challenged of us.

Google maps offers

*Navigation: Free, voice-guided GPS navigation system
*Places: Find, rate, and get recommendations for places
*Latitude: See friends on the map and check in at places




I have used many navigation programs and I must admit that none comes close to Google Maps in terms of ease of use and functionality.


There is no limitation of specific number of Points of interest or the need to update the maps. Since it is not a offline navigation system, the app downloads maps on the fly which tend to be more accurate than offline maps.


Also the points of interests are obtained by Google search and there is no need to be very accurate in your spelling or the name. I have always found it very discouraging in GPS units/apps where you have to enter the exact name.

The destination can be verbally spoken, Typed or picked from a contact in your phone with address details and also it lists your starred places.

It also lists the recent destinations that you had visited using Google maps.

Google Street view is also nicely integrated into navigation to give unique view points in junctions and turns :
